Scotland - Glasgow Board - U-turn on hours

29 Nov
2013

Glasgow Licensing Board has issued the 3rd Edition of their Licensing Board's Policy Statement following a widespread consultation process which commenced in September.

The Board had originally sought to extend pub opening hours to 01:00, a move which led to strong protests from both the police and nightclub operators, both objecting for differing reasons of course. Following the public consultation, the Board has now dropped this proposal. There had also been plans to allow a number of nightclubs outside the City Centre’s boundaries to extend their hours until 03:00 but these have too been curtailed.

However, for the duration of the Commonwealth Games the Board is to allow “on-sales licensed premises”, to remain open an hour later. Further details on the extension will be communicated by them to licence holders in early 2014.

The Statement has effect for a period of three years from 27 November 2013 to 26 November 2016, unless earlier revised.
